Welcome to Bones & Bared Teeth

Updated: Mar 29, 2020

I don’t know why you’re here, reading this, curious about Bones & Bared Teeth.

Maybe you’ve outgrown the tired conversations about “success” or how *insert product here* can make you happier. Maybe the news feels too depressing to be the only thing you read these days. Maybe you’re looking for a community of people sharing ideas and researching different topics that seem more important or relevant to your life. Or maybe you just clicked on the wrong link.

Either way, welcome. I’m really glad you’re here.

Let me introduce myself. I’m a yoga practitioner. But I’m also a daughter of two neuroscientists and a regular therapy go-er. I have studied, and follow, ancient practices related to yoga and health. I’m also a firm believer of Western science. Some days I wake up optimistic about the day, and I go on to complete all the tasks I wanted to do. Other days (especially when the sun isn’t out) I have to convince myself a bit harder to get moving.

Sometimes I handle hardship with grace and a calm mind, and other times I get overwhelmed and lose my shit. I care a lot about what I put in my body (hello green powder, hemp seeds, MCT oil, supplements, Ayurvedic herbs, herbal tea) but am I also a consumer of the occasional edible or one-glass-too-many of wine with friends? Fuck yeah, because those things make me feel good too and it’s all about balance.

As I’m sure many of you know these identities do not have to exist in contradiction or isolation. The beauty of our world, and of our lives as human beings, is that most of these belief systems and ways of life actually exist in a constant dance with each other…in some cases as different versions or layers of the same thing.

I am a recovering perfectionist – I work every day to be the best version of myself, and I work HARD. But I am also learning not to beat myself up when I mess up.

This is what Bones & Bared Teeth is about. Here you'll find a collection of musings, ideas, and researched topics that make up all of the many intricacies of life. This is my commitment to a more intentional, mindful, value-driven way of doing this adult-ting thing. This life thing. Without self-criticism or pressure. I hate to break it to you – none of us have this thing 100% figured out. But hey, the more we explore the hows and the whys of different aspects of our lives – spirituality, health, relationships – the more we are able to spend the limited time we have on this planet in a way that suits us. That makes us happiest. That allows us to better help others. Because isn’t that the ultimate goal?

Let me know what kind of topics you'd like to see covered in the comments below...
